Crucify Your Flesh

Are the desires of your heart of God? Or of the Flesh?

When dealing with desires, especially this day and age, it is easy to convince ourselves that what our flesh desires is the right thing, even if God tries to tell us otherwise. With our society being wrapped up in ourselves, and doing what is best for “us”, we tend to disregard the Lord’s voice and confuse our desires with His.

How do we overcome this, you ask? Well it starts with understanding a few things:

The Heart is Deceitful. | The Bible specifically says so! “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?” -Jeremiah 17:9

We Must Crucify Our Flesh. | As Christians, we are to give up our desires. “Those who belong to Christ Jesus have nailed the passions and desires of their sinful nature to his  cross and crucified them there.” -Galatians 5:24

Give up Your Desires, And Seek His. | When we are seeking God, His desires will become ours. “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” -Psalm 37:4

When you understand the way we are wired, and you sacrifice yourself to God, the Lord’s voice on His desires will become more evident and clear. Bathing every decision in deep prayer also helps when discerning the Lord’s voice. But don’t just fill your prayers with questions and requests, take time to listen to the Father respond! And seek council from trusted Christian friends. The Lord wants us to converse with our brothers and sisters so that we can determine what He is speaking to us about.

My challenge to you is this:

Ask Yourself | Where is my heart? Am I seeking God in my desires, or is my flesh dictating them? And if there are desires in your life that are not pleasing to the Father, I challenge you to identify them, maybe write them down, and nail them to his cross and crucify them. Then ask the Lord to make your heart new, and to make His desires your own!

Crucify your flesh, and live in the Spirit!
