Ever wonder if God can use fortune cookies to give us signs?
Well after today, I believe it.
I received this fortune cookie today when eating at an Asian restaurant with a friend. I have been really struggling with discernment from The Lord on some specific decisions in my life, and just trusting my steps I take. I have been waiting on a sign on which way to go, before I take any steps forward. So getting this fortune cookie was not what I had necessarily expected, or hoped for. But I realized in that moment that it was a sign from The Lord, a sign to trust Him. And sometimes in doing that, It requires blindly walking forward.
Sometimes in life, we are afraid to take steps, in fear of taking the wrong one or being out of the Lord’s will. But what we need to understand first is that when seeking the Lord’s will, we need to pray about it. In Romans 8:26 it specifically says “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” The Spirit intercedes for us when we pray, especially in weakness and confusion, so that The Lord understands exactly what we need. But, sometimes we don’t necessarily get a huge neon sign saying “GO THIS WAY” when The Lord calls us to do something. Sometimes His signs are more discreet, or require action before revealing. I heard a quote a while back that said “Don’t stay until The Lord calls you to go. Go until The Lord calls you to stay.” sometimes, if we feel as though The Lord is leading us somewhere, we have to take some steps forward. One of the beauties of God is that He is with us constantly, trying to lead us, so if we step out and that was not His will, or if it needs altering, The Lord will gently guide us onto the correct path. We need to believe without fear that the Spirit of The Lord dwells within us, and that gives us power!
Seek the Lord’s face in everything, and pray about decisions, but also don’t be afraid to courageously begin walking! “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5-6)
